Gold is quoted in US dollars per troy ounce. A standard lot is usually 100 ounces, so every 1 USD move in the gold price changes a 1-lot position by 100 USD. Some brokers use other contract sizes, so the calculator lets you change it.
How it is calculated
Gold profit is the dollar change in price times the number of ounces you hold.
Ounces = lots × contract size (usually 100)Profit (USD) = (close − open) × direction × ouncesWorked example
A 0.10-lot position holds 10 ounces. If gold rises by 15 USD, a buy position gains 150 USD; each 0.01 move is worth 0.10 USD at that size.
Frequently asked questions
How much is 1 pip on gold?
Brokers define it differently: some call 0.01 a pip, others 0.1. With 100 oz per lot, a 0.01 move is worth $1 per lot and a $1 move is worth $100 per lot.
What is 1 lot of gold?
Usually 100 troy ounces, but check your broker's contract specification: the size changes the value of every price move.
Can I trade gold at weekends?
Regular gold markets close at weekends. A few brokers offer weekend products; XM launched one in 2026. Weekend prices can gap against Monday's open.
